Which parking lot is best for visiting Strasbourg?

Are you planning to travel by car in Strasbourg? However, are you afraid of not finding a place to park your vehicle? Rest assured, the capital of Alsace offers a variety of parking options. Free, paid, relay parking in Strasbourg, we give you all our tips and good deals to move freely to all points of interest.

Park-and-ride car parks in Strasbourg: the most practical and economical option

To park easily and simply in Strasbourg, choose the park-and-ride car parks. They are strategically located near the tram and high-level bus network. They allow you to park your car (with a maximum height of 1.90 m) for the day. The ticket is valid for a round trip for one hour after validation with or without connection.

This Park-and-Ride (P+R) option is available for all passengers of the vehicle (up to 7 people) and accessible 7 days a week and 24 hours a day.  CTS subscribers benefit from free parking (except P+R Rotonde). For more information, consult the Strasbourg transport company.

10 park-and-ride car parks are present in the four corners of the Eurometropolis. You will quickly reach the city center in 5 to 20 minutes depending on the chosen car park.

  • Rotonde or Ducs d'Alsace: 5 to 8 min (tram line A or D), accessible from the A4 and A35 motorways, Cronenbourg exit or from the Oberhausbergen road.
  • Espace Européen de l'Entreprise (European Business Area): 20 min (bus G), accessible from the A35 motorway, Bischheim exit.
  • Hoenheim Gare (Hoenheim Station) or Rives de l’Aar (Banks of the Aar): 11 to 20 min (tram B), accessible from the Wantzenau road (RD 468) or the Bischwiller road (RD 37), and for the second from the A35 and A350 motorways, Wacken exit.
  • Boecklin: 17 min (tram E), accessible from Boecklin street, René Cassin alley, Human Rights alley or Kastner alley.

  • Elsau: 11 minutes (tram B), accessible from the A35 motorway, P+R Tram Elsau exit or Montagne Verte exit.
  • Parc des Romains (Roman Park): 9 min (tram F), accessible from the A35 and A351 motorways, Porte Blanche exit.
  • Poteries: 18 min (tram D), accessible from the A351.

On-street parking and its pricing

Parking on the street in Strasbourg? Difficult, but not impossible! Free street spaces are regularly snapped up, spaces are limited, especially during the festive season and the Christmas market. They are also payable from Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 7 pm and subject to regulations. On Sundays and public holidays, spaces are free.

The city is divided into several parking zones.

  • The green zone: maximum duration of 5 hours on the outskirts of the center.
  • The orange zone: maximum duration of 4 hours around the historic center.
  • The red zone: maximum duration of 3 hours in the heart of the Grande Île and renowned districts such as the tanners' quarter, Petite France, or famous squares (Kléber, Broglie...).
  • The blue zone: free zones (currently just over 1,000 spaces). Nevertheless, you must display a European blue disc upon arrival.
  • The purple zone (implemented since August 14, 2023): allowing to expand parking to the Grande-Île, train station, Krutenau, Bourse or Vosges districts. These places are not included in the resident street parking subscription, nor in professional packages.

For paid zones, you can pay at the parking meter (by cash, bank card, telephone) after entering your license plate. Payment can also be made via a mobile application such as Easypark, Indigo Neo or Flowbird. With these, it is possible to increase or reduce the parking duration remotely.

Public, secure and covered car parks in the center

If you are staying a few days in the city, public car parks are the best parking solution: more economical than on-street parking and secure thanks to video surveillance. The rate is degressive.

For a long duration, prefer the car parks:

  • Historic Center - Petite France (rue de Molsheim);
  • Sainte Aurélie Gare (boulevard de Metz);
  • Étoile P2 (avenue du Rhin).

For a few hours, choose:

  • Austerlitz, a 5-minute walk from Notre-Dame Cathedral;
  • Les Halles, a 5-minute walk from Place Kléber;
  • Saint-Nicolas, an 8-minute walk from Notre-Dame Cathedral.

It is important to note that the Low Emission Mobility Zone introduced by the Climate Law came into effect in January 2023. Cars without a Crit'Air sticker and Crit'Air 5 are no longer allowed to circulate or park in the Eurometropolis.
