History and urbanism

Verona is second only to Rome when it comes to Roman ruins, which is another reason it was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. Every corner of the city reveals thousands of years of history. Close to the historic town centre it is possible to visit Verona’s Arena, the third most important after the Coliseum and the amphitheatre in Capua. Alternatively you can follow the line of the large Scaliger walls that extend for a distance of approx. 9 kilometres and constitute one of the city’s most evocative attractions.

Stroll

Take a walk through the romantic streets in the centre of Verona, beginning with Juliet’s House, made famous by the words of William Shakespeare, and then on to Via Mazzini for some shopping or Piazza delle Erbe to sample a Spritz (a typical wine-based cocktail commonly served as an aperitif in Northeast Italy) or a good glass of white wine. If you’d rather lose yourself in a maze of greenery, then visit Giusti Gardens and then take a walk amid the lush green vegetation of the beautiful Giardini dell’Arsenale (Arsenal Gardens).

Heritage

It's amid the streets of Verona's historic town centre, between the crenellated walls and soaring bell towers that the city's artistic and architectural heritage is preserved. Places such as the church of Saint Zeno, the Cathedral with its capitular library and the official church of the noble Scaliger family, Saint Anastasia’s. Outside of Verona it is possible to visit the Parks of the Adige, Lake Garda and the different theme parks for adults and children.

Festivities

Events in Verona are not to be missed. If you happen to be in the city in September, then come and take part in “Tocatì”, the international festival of street games, recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO and part of the World Heritage site. And for the more romantic among you, in February the city of love organises plenty of events for St. Valentine’s that will help you enjoy the most passionate day of the year in this magical setting. For those visiting Verona in May, we recommend the event dedicated to lovers of good wine and to ancient artisan traditions: Cantine Aperte (Open Wineries)!
