Liege, which is situated along the Meuse river, is a city with a very rich and unique past. Traces of human activities dating back to prehistoric times have been found. And small remains of a Gallo-Roman villa attest to the presence of Romans from the end of the 1st century. The foundation of the city as such dates back to the 8th century.
It subsequently became the capital of the Principality of Liege which was taken over in 1465 by Charles the Bold. The city did not regain its independence until about fifteen years later. It would remain independent for about three centuries until the Liege revolution, which broke out at the same time as the Brabant Revolution, giving rise to the United Belgian States. But in 1792, French troops invaded the city and the Principality became part of France.
While the defeat of Waterloo brought Liege under Dutch tutelage, the Belgian revolution subsequently liberated Belgium, with Liege becoming part of the kingdom. The city then witnessed the two world wars.
This eventful past has given rise to a rich heritage that you can explore in the heart of the city.
Enjoy the back streets typical of the city center and the banks of the Meuse. Don't miss the Montagne de Bueren: an emblematic staircase in the old town with 374 steps. From up there you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the city. Don’t miss the market near Gare Leopold, which is a meeting place for locals.
Discover the city's religious heritage: the unmissable Palais des Princes-Évêques near the Carré district, the Saint-Paul Cathedral in Liege or the Collegiate Church of Saint-Barthélémy with its twin towers.
Discover the military past of the Belgian city by visiting the centuries-old ruins of the Citadel of Liege or the Fort de la Chartreuse.
Do you like museums? Our hotel is close to the Aquarium-Museum Universitaire de Liege, the Museum of Fine Arts La Boverie, or the Curtius Museum located in the Féronstrée et Hors-Château district. Inside you will find the old collections of the Museums of Glass, Weapons and Archaeology.

For nature lovers, make the most of your visit to Liege and go for a walk at the Hautes Fagnes-Eifel Nature Park, located on the border with Germany.
