The Gothic Minster is world-famous not only because of its history, it is actually the tallest church tower in the world. In the 14th century, The first stones were laid here and this magnificent building has contributed to the cityscape for hundreds of years.

The building was only completed after over 500 years - once you have visited this masterpiece, you can understand why this had to take some time. If you feel fit enough, you can face the more than 700 steps and walk up to the upper platform. The view that can be found from there over the city is of course fascinating and unique at the same time.

Experience attractions in Ulm

Almost all of the city's attractions are in the center, including Ulm's town hall, which dates back to the early Renaissance. Anyone moving around the city center can hardly avoid the colorful building, possibly because of the large astronomical clock that has been on display there for 500 years.

Our modern B&B Hotel Ulm is only a few minutes' walk away from these sights and therefore close to the center of the city centre. With soundproof windows, you can look forward to quiet nights here and you can, of course, also book a breakfast buffet if you wish. When you arrive in our hotel room, you will receive free Wi-Fi and access to Sky TV. We are happy to offer you a single room, double room or family room, depending on your requirements. Here you are just a few minutes walk from the city center. Our check-in time is 14:00, the check-out time is 12:00 (midday).

City trip in Ulm: Diverse offers and modern quarters

The city offers public as well as digital city tours. You not only learn the historical history of the city, you can also embark on a digital scavenger hunt with the Future History app, which brings you closer to the sights of the city in an exciting and loving way.

Group tours can now also be booked or Segway tours organized. In Ulm there are a variety of weekly markets with all kinds of delicacies that invite you to try them.

But that's not all, Ulm has modern museums in a futuristic and visually appealing way. The Kunsthalle Weishaupt or the Stadthaus Ulm, as well as the Edwin-Scharff-Museum amaze guests. Many renowned exhibitions can be found here and Ulm's calendar of events never really seems to be empty.

The heavy city of Neu-Ulm, which is also not far from the center, has a decidedly modern cityscape. From this side of the Danube it is wonderful to disappear into the nearby parks or visit the art collections around the city. The idyllically located Pfuhler See is also nearby (just one of many beautiful lakes in the area).

From here you can visit many nature parks, but also leisurely hiking trails and culinary delights. The sister city is increasingly becoming a popular travel destination for solo travelers, city trip lovers or business travelers - they all find a pleasant place to stay here.

Ulm Cathedral

Ulm Minster

This city landmark is one of Ulm’s most popular sights. As well as being Germany’s largest Protestant church, Ulm Minster also has the world's tallest church tower, so is well-known far beyond the city. Construction of the minster started in the 14th century, but the late Gothic building was only completed in the 19th century. The top of the church tower affords beautiful views of Ulm and the surrounding area and is well worth the effort of climbing up a few stairs! The size and design of the interior are equally impressive.

Federal Fortress

Fortress of Ulm

The Fortress of Ulm was built between 1842 and 1859. As well as Ulm, other fortresses were also built in Luxembourg, Mainz, Landau and Rastatt to protect the German Confederation. Large parts of the fortress have been preserved to this day, particularly on the Neu-Ulm side, where you can get a very good idea of its former size. You can also discover many components on the edge of the city centre and along the River Danube. A visit to the Wilhelmsburg, the main section of the fortress, is also worthwhile. Visits are only permitted as part of the guided tours, which take place every third Sunday of the month.

Town Hall of Ulm

Ulm Town Hall

The town hall is located close to Ulm Minster. The oldest part of the current building was built in 1370 as a department store. It was only years later, in 1419, that it was named the town hall. During the course of the 15th century, windows encased in gothic architecture were installed on the council chamber, with six statues of electoral princes. The eye-catching astronomical clock was also installed, and was a masterpiece of the times. In addition to the normal clock face, clockmaker Isaak Habrecht also incorporated a zodiac ring, enabling experts to read a wide variety of astronomical data. The large paintings on the façade of the building had to be replaced at the beginning of the 19th century as the previous ones had been largely destroyed by the weather.

Fischerviertel

Fischerviertel

Fischerviertel (the fishing district) is a beautiful part of Ulm old town. Located directly on the River Danube, the district with its small, winding streets is the ideal place to take a leisurely stroll. The paths go over numerous small bridges and footbridges, past several historic houses. Among those worth seeing are the famous Schiefe Haus (leaning house), the Schöne Haus (beautiful house) and the Kässbohrer house. You can still see remains of the Staufenmauer old city walls from the 12th century. Wilhelmshöhe, which is at the west end of the district, offers great views of the entire Fischerviertel.

Ulmer Grabenhäuschen

The Grabenhäuschen are a very special place of interest in Ulm. In wartime, extra troops were hired by the city and so additional accommodation was required. The first Grabenhäuschen were built on the northern and western sides of the city wall in 1610. This was followed by additional houses on Henkersgraben in 1634. At the start of the 19th century, most of the houses were sold to local residents, and 35 of them have been preserved to this day. You can enjoy a quiet walk along the moat to admire the cute little houses.

Wiblingen Abbey

When you visit Ulm, you should definitely plan a short excursion in the local area too. Because around 5 km from Ulm city centre is Wiblingen Abbey. The first abbey was built here in the 11th century, but was completely replaced when the current one was built between 1714 and 1781. The abbey is one of the last in the region to be built in baroque style. Elements of early classicism can be seen in the abbey’s magnificent interior. In contrast, the library hall is entirely rococo style. The opulent, detailed interior design is finished off with a huge ceiling fresco. A visit here is definitely recommended.
