All about the Cíes Islands of Vigo

This national park of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia, located in Vigo, is a spectacular tourist destination to enjoy nature, the sea and also life in the north of Spain. Therefore, we tell you everything you need to know before making your visit to this place and make it even more spectacular. The first of all, and most importantly, is that it is necessary to ask for an authorization and buy an entrance in the official website, since if we do not do it we will have made the trip in vain.

Once we have our ticket then we only have to inform us about this beautiful natural space in the Vigo estuary formed by three islands, which are known as North or Monteagudo, Middle or Do Faro and the South Island or San Martiño. A small archipelago full of fauna, flora and hiking trails of the most recommended.

What to see in the Cíes Islands?

The first thing is to know that the island Monteagudo and the island Do Faro are united by a sandy area that part of the Beach of Rodas. Therefore, you can visit on foot and it is not necessary to use maritime transport but we want to. The walk between one island and another is a gift for the senses and a trip to this paradise located in Vigo.

In our excursion you can not miss the visit to the Beach of Rodas, which was chosen by The Guardian as the best beach in the world in 2007. So, this is a must stop on our trip to the national park of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia, a title - that of national park - which holds since 2002.

To visit this virgin natural paradise, one of the few remaining on the planet, we have four routes at our disposal. The first of them is the Route Faro Monte Faro of 7 kilometers of extension. Here, we will leave the Lighthouse of Cíes and walk to the passenger pier, passing previously through the Beach of Roses.

The other route is known as Route Faro da Pora and is similar to the previous one, although in this case instead of going through the middle of the island, we will go along the coast until we finish, again, at the passenger pier. In this case, we will have to walk 5.3 kilometers.

More routes of the Cíes Islands

The Route Alto do Príncipe part of the passenger pier to the Alto do Principe and runs through the heart of the North Island. The good thing is that this route has a distance of 2.5 kilometers and, therefore, can be done in an hour and a half walking slowly.

Finally, we have the Route Faro do Peito on the island of the North. In this case, it runs to practically the north of the island and passes near spectacular beaches that will be very close to the way of the route and that we can divert to see them.

As for the island of the South or of San Martiño, there are no established routes and visiting it is more complicated, therefore, we will have to contact the national park to ask about this possibility.

Probably, you are wondering if the Cíes Islands can be seen in a day and the answer is no. Yes you can have a wide visit, but a day is not enough time to be able to do all the routes or to fully enjoy these spectacular islands.
