Discovering Strasbourg by bike, boat or on foot
Strasbourg is THE cycling capital. Indeed, 560 km of cycle paths allow you to enjoy the city. Many shops offer them for rent if you do not own one. There is something for everyone: children's bike, tandem, electric bike or cargo bike.
- You cannot pass on the covered bridges without taking a photo in front of the covered bridges house.
- Then pass by the Vauban dam, which is a lock bridge classified as a historical monument, where there are often free exhibitions inside.
- Go pedal towards the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and discover or rediscover the works of Monet, Renoir Gauguin and many others.
- Then head towards the Petite France district. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, discover its beautiful half-timbered houses, including the one that is certainly the most photographed: the tanners' house.
- Take a short detour through the Strasbourg Cathedral, the symbol of the city with its single bell tower and its astronomical clock. It was long considered the tallest building in the world with its hundred and forty-two meters high. It is the second tallest cathedral in France after Rouen and the fifth in the world.
- Take the opportunity to admire the Kammerzell house, which is the oldest in Strasbourg and which today has become a restaurant offering delicious Alsatian sauerkraut.
- A boat trip on the Ill will give you a good overview of the city by passing by the European institutions.
- Going up the German district on foot or by bike, you arrive at the European institutions such as the seat of the European Parliament, the Council of Europe or the European Court of Human Rights. In the surrounding districts there are also many diplomatic representations, including that of France.
- For the gourmets among you, during your stay and if you still have a little time, do not miss the visit to the Chocolate Museum! The museum has a restaurant located in a train and offers its desserts in the form of a buffet prepared by its chocolatiers.
