While the development of a marina in Lattes is quite recent, it reconnects with the past of the place. Indeed, in the Middle Ages, the city of Lattes played a key role in the economic life of Montpellier thanks to its river port. The remains of this first port were also discovered during the excavations preceding the construction of the current site! 
 
Located on the left bank of the Lez, this navigable port has 100 berths (including 5 for visitors). From the sea, it is accessible by a lock giving access to the quays. The construction of Port Ariane in the mid-1990s gave rise to the district of the same name. This new urbanization, inspired by major Mediterranean cities such as Seville, Venice or Florence, displays a particular architecture with its waterfront buildings with colorful facades. There are apartments for individuals (vacation rentals or permanent residences) as well as offices. 
 

Indeed, several elements of the site give it a special character:

• The port is the nerve center of the new district. You can admire superb pleasure boats moored along the quays. The shops, bars and restaurants with terraces by the water create a lively atmosphere.
• The basin is a circular body of water surrounded by a vast esplanade. A green islet, accessible by a footbridge, is located at one end. With its squares and passages above the water, it offers an ideal circuit for walking.
• The Mail, a business and residential district, is distributed around a pedestrian axis adorned with squares and green spaces.

 On foot, by scooter or by bike, it is a place for walking that is very popular with locals.

Where to go out in Port Ariane?

A stone's throw from the marina is the Théâtre Jacques Coeur, a performance hall hosting dramatic comedies, vaudevilles, tragedies, romances, stories or concert readings. Opening of the cultural season between September and May! 
 
For a drink, dinner or lunch, the terraces of Port Ariane are among the best restaurants in Lattes. Taste local and international specialties washed down with a good glass of wine, eat a pizza on the go or treat yourself to a starred table: there is something for all tastes and budgets.

You will find many points of interest near the marina. A fifteen minute walk away, visit the Lattes museum: its permanent collections offer a dive into the history and culture of the region. Temporary exhibitions and discovery workshops are regularly organized there. On the spot, the archaeological site of Lattara is an exceptional testimony of daily life in the iron age. 
 
Another tourist site not to be missed, the Maison de la nature and its marked routes await you close to the protected area of Méjean. Outside, the walking route allows you to discover the fauna of the ponds in their natural habitat. A bird observatory is also installed there: a great place to take superb photos!
