The Maison de la nature is located within the protected area of Méjean, an exceptional natural site located less than 10km from Montpellier. With an area of 200 hectares, this exceptional area borders the Étang du Méjean. Its landscape composed of marshes, lagoons and reed beds is home to a great diversity of animal and plant species. Throughout the seasons, you can admire Camargue bulls and horses, pink flamingos but also freshwater turtles. White storks, emblematic birds of central Alsace, have also taken up residence there.

A place of welcome and information, the Maison de la nature is the starting point for hikes that crisscross the site. The municipality of Lattes regularly organizes exhibitions, events and activities for the general public. The objective: to raise awareness of sustainable development and the preservation of natural heritage and the environment. Educational projects for schools are organized throughout the year. Inside, have fun observing the activity within a stork's nest filmed live!

On site, a picnic area and public toilets are open to all visitors.

The trails of the Maison de la nature

Several trails are laid out to discover the riches of the site:
 

• The "les Grains du Méjean" trail is a 2.5 km route, adapted for people with reduced mobility and labeled Tourism and disability. This interpretation trail includes various workshops allowing you to appreciate the place through the 5 senses. The panels scattered throughout the walk invite visitors to a true sensory discovery. Various devices have been designed to facilitate information for people with disabilities: Braille panels, audio guide and LSF translation via a mobile application.

• The ash tree trail is located on the edge of the salt meadows. Along this 1km route, you can admire pretty flowers such as the marsh daffodil and the summer snowflake and observe Camargue bulls and horses grazing.

• 3 km long, the Plane tree trail takes you through a track sheltered by tall trees to the Lattara archaeological site, near the Lattes museum.

• Decorated with footbridges, the Tamaris trail takes you through a superb mosaic of landscapes on a 6km route. A pleasant and unique loop to do with the family to observe the many inhabitants of the place: coypus, pink flamingos, herons…

Maison de la nature de Montpellier: practical information

The trails of the Méjean natural site are accessible for free visits all year round from Tuesday to Friday. From March to August, the place is open on Saturdays and Sundays. Guided tours for groups (schools and others) can be scheduled on request. 

Are you arriving by car? A visitor car park is available at the entrance to the site (approximately 600 m from the Maison de la nature). A nearby parking space is also provided for people with disabilities.

To get to the site by public transport, take tram line 3, terminus Lattes center (2km walk from the Maison de la nature).
