Sierra Nevada incorporates a nature full of beauty. If you are more into walking, we recommend you plan a hiking route. As you travel through the area, you will discover wonderful landscapes. If you like photography, hiking is a good option to contemplate every corner of Sierra Nevada and take some unique photos. And do not worry! There are numerous routes adapted for each level. Enjoy the outdoors!
Climbing/ascending and descending mountains in Sierra Nevada is pure wonder. The Veleta peak is one of the highest peaks in Spain. Specifically, it is the fourth highest peak, behind Teide, Mulhacén (Sierra Nevada) and Aneto. From the city of Granada, you will have to travel about 43 kilometers to reach the top. Beginners can access the peak with prior preparation. The mountain is close to 3,400 meters of altitude and distance above sea level. We would say that this peak is a bit easier to climb than the Mulhacén peak, the highest peak in Andalusia. This mountain involves about 10 hours of fairly intense physical activity, which can be difficult for a beginner.
Sierra Nevada welcomes many cyclists every year, both professionals and amateurs. That is why it is an ideal destination for pedaling and training to climb mountains. One of the most famous cyclists in the world, Alejandro Valverde, usually visits the province of Granada to train. In short, if you like to exercise outdoors, you will love climbing some of the mountains in Sierra Nevada.
Canyoning or canyoning is a sport for the more adventurous. It is practiced in the canyons or ravines of a river and mainly consists of descending and ascending. However, the routes are varied and you can get to walk, swim, climb down and rappel.
Among the most famous descents in Sierra Nevada, you will find the Río Verde (suitable for beginners), the Lentegí ravine, canyoning in Somosierra (suitable for beginners) or the Barranco de la Hoz in the Sierra de Gredos.
In the area, you can go to discos, relax in a spa, play golf, take a walk or enjoy nature. The ski resort has everything planned so you don't miss anything. There will be no shortage of ski lifts or famous restaurants. In addition, if you want to rest after a day of hiking or sports, you will find many facilities in the surrounding area. We recommend a hotel in Granada to make the most of the province. By the way, from the Alhambra, you will have a wonderful view of Sierra Nevada. Don't miss this picture!
