The Alhambra is the most touristy and popular monument in all of Spain. This complex made up of several towers, wonderful palaces, gardens, walls and irrigation canals will leave you speechless. It will not leave anyone indifferent and it is an incredible opportunity to learn about the history of Andalusia. What to see specifically in the Alhambra and above all, how to visit it? We tell you everything!
Let's start with a bit of history to discover the origin of this architectural work. The Alhambra is one of the fortresses that arose from military wishes to defend the Nasrid kingdom. It is a palatine city. In 1238, Mohamed Ben-Nazar, called Al-Ahmar El Rojo, arrived in Granada to occupy the site. He emerged triumphant and built the first nucleus of the palace. His son finished and fortified it. In other words, this Nasrid monument is the absolute symbol of Arab and Andalusian art.
The Alhambra area is surrounded by a high hill (Palace of Charles V), the Sierra Nevada mountains, as well as forests. The landscape is like a painting and in fact, it was the center of attention of many artists throughout the centuries. More specifically, the monument is located between the oldest neighborhoods in the city: Albaicín and Sacromonte.
During your visit, you will be able to discover the three palaces of the Alhambra: The Mexuar, the Palace of Comares and the Palace of the Lions (Hall of the Kings).
They are surrounded by wonderful gardens and patios, such as the Generalife, the most famous of all.
In addition, you will be interested to know that the Alhambra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
