Which museums to visit in Almería?

Often, when we travel to a city, we want to do something different that allows us to learn more about the land we are walking on. That's why museums are always one of the best options to satisfy these desires, as well as to learn and enjoy. Therefore, we are going to take a tour of some museums in Almería that you cannot miss if you travel to the province.

The most well-known museums

Among the most well-known is the famous Museum of Contemporary Art, which collects works by Almería artists from the 19th century to the present. We can see not only paintings, but also sculptures and engravings. The most well-known is its exhibition, spread over several rooms, about the Indaliano movement, which is a movement born in the region after the Spanish Civil War. However, this Almería museum is better known by the nickname Doña Pakyta, due to the building in which it is located.

But perhaps the most famous museum in Almería is the Archaeological Museum of Almería, a place that opened its doors in 1993 thanks to the donation of the collections kept by Louis Siret. Here we can learn more about how the first agricultural and livestock societies lived in El Argar. In addition, its entrance is free and it received a special mention for the Best European Museum 2008. A review of the archaeological history of the province of Almería that you cannot miss. As if that were not enough, in addition to these sites on ancient society, the building designed by the Ignacio García Pedrosa architects' studio, which has received multiple international awards, also stands out.

The third museum in Almería that cannot be overlooked, and one of the most interesting in Andalusia, is the Guitar Museum of Almería. It is a museum dedicated to the figure of Antonio Torres, father of the modern Spanish guitar. Thus, if you are a lover of the arts and music in general, this journey into the history of music is a must.

Other interesting museums in Almería

If there is something well-known about Almería, it is its desert and the films that were shot there. Therefore, the Almería Film House (Casa del Cine de Almería) is a recommended place to preserve the provincial historical heritage within the seventh art. In its permanent exhibition, we will find a review of the important films that were shot here and that put Spain on the cinematic map.

In Almería we will also find the Andalusian Photography Center (Centro Andaluz de Fotografía), where in addition to the permanent exhibition there is always some very striking temporary exhibition.

Thus, on this trip, we can go to outstanding museums to satisfy our cultural needs, learn about the ancient archaeological past from prehistory and Roman times to the most recent art. A cultural offer ideal for a trip in which we want to learn more things.
