Dating from the 9th century, the Château du Terral was originally the summer residence of the Bishops of Maguelone. This fortified building was destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries during the wars that followed one another in the region.

Bought by the Cambon family during the French Revolution, it became the property of the commune of Saint-Jean-de-Vedas at the end of the 20th century. The place then became a place dedicated to the life of the commune: a wedding hall and various meeting spaces were created. The municipal music and fine arts schools have their premises there. The commune also transformed the cellars of the Domaine du Terral into a performance hall, making the place a renowned cultural and artistic center.

Terral Park in Saint-Jean-de-Vedas

The Terral Park offers an original and educational walk to discover the Mediterranean flora, very popular with locals and passing tourists. It was laid out in the 19th century in the manner of English gardens by a botany enthusiast. We then find rock gardens, a reflecting pool and a swan lake. Many exotic species such as palm trees or bamboos are also planted there.

Today, the arboretum trail allows you to discover several dozen particularly original species such as the Italian Cypress, the Japanese Sophora, the Indian Chestnut, the Ginkgo or the Atlas Cedar. We also admire regional species such as the Provence Cypress or the Montpellier Maple.

The bamboo groves have been restored by the municipality and several thematic spaces have been created: scent garden, stone and water garden...
This exceptional park of 3.5 hectares serves as a natural setting for the various cultural and citizen events organized by the municipality.

Within the Domaine du Terral de St Jean de Vedas, the cultural space of the Chai du Terral consists of a performance hall, a bistro hall and an exhibition gallery. Thanks to its large stage, it hosts all types of shows, from circus to contemporary dance, including monumental scenographies or large musical ensembles.

Placed under the sign of mixed arts and cross-cultures, the program favors cultural diversity. The agenda highlights varied aesthetics and disciplines, both in terms of performing arts and street arts. Oriented towards young audiences, the Festival Festin de Pierres welcomes more than 15,000 spectators each year, with circus, dance, world music, puppet and contemporary theater shows.
The Chai is also a place of artistic residence. The association accompanies several regional companies each year in their creative process. It provides its premises, offers technical support and co-produces certain creations.
