Enjoy the beach in Nice

Along the Promenade des Anglais in Nice stretch kilometers of beach that delight the locals and tourists passing through. Enjoying the beach and the sun in Nissa Bella is therefore a must-do activity in any season! Idleness, sunbathing, strolling, jogging or water sports, the vast expanses of blond sand and pebbles offer an exceptional landscape winter and summer. Most are easily accessible on foot from the promenade.

Beaches of Nice: public or private?

The city has 20 public beaches and 15 private beaches. The difference? Private beaches are equipped with deckchairs, mattresses and parasols for rent by the day. The equipment generally depends on a hotel, bar or restaurant where you can order drinks and food. Some have a nice swimming pool with sea view and host the trendy events of the Riviera… Festive atmosphere guaranteed!

Less decorated, public beaches are nevertheless very pleasant and just as frequented by tourists and locals. They are equipped with showers and toilets and, for some of them, arranged to provide access to the sea for people with disabilities.

Water sports enthusiasts appreciate the calm waters of the Mediterranean for the practice of yachting, jet-skiing, windsurfing, paddleboarding, kayaking or parasailing. The beaches of Nice (public and private) are also known for their scuba diving and snorkeling spots.

Public beaches of Nice

The Voilier beach is close to two museums of Nice: the Masséna museum and the Museum of Fine Arts. This pretty beach, sloping gently towards the sea, has a playground for children. It is very popular with families.

Lenval beach, also called dog beach, is located in the center of the Promenade des Anglais. Entirely pet friendly, it is a very pleasant place for masters as for their 4-legged companions. It is equipped with sanitary facilities and showers at human height… and dog height!

Facing the Albert 1er garden, the Carras is a pretty pebble beach located near the center of Nice. It is labeled Handiplage 2 buoys and has facilities allowing people with disabilities to access the sea (access ramp and audioplage terminal).

Away from the seafront and tourist areas, Coco Beach is a small cove well known to diving enthusiasts. Consisting of large flat rocks, swimming in its crystalline waters is a wonderful experience. However, access to Coco Beach is via a ladder and a steep staircase, not recommended for young children.

Finally, the public beach of the opera hosts every year the Grand bath of the carnival, a festive and refreshing event which closes the Carnival of Nice.

Private beaches of Nice

Not far from the Nice Opera, the Castel beach is a true local institution, both for its atmosphere and for its restaurant showcasing a tasty and refined Provençal cuisine. At nightfall, you will have a magical view of the Baie des Anges and the illuminated castle.

Blue Beach is also a very popular spot, a stone's throw from the mythical Negresco. It hosts one of the most pleasant restaurants in Nice, with a menu of various Mediterranean specialties and grilled fish.

Vela beach is one of the best addresses if you are coming on vacation with your family. Indeed, it has a kids club offering fun, sporting and cultural activities while parents relax quietly on comfortable deckchairs facing the sea, in the relaxation area!

When leaving the beach, head towards the old town or Place Masséna in Nice to taste a delicious Nice socca at sunset…
