Restaurants in Cologne

Are you staying in one of our cozy B&B Hotels in Cologne and have you already explored the sights in Cologne? Then it's probably time for a little culinary break. We give you all the information you need about the best restaurants in Cologne. Here you can find out where you can get a quick bite to eat around the clock or order a 4-course à la carte menu in the evening.

You can indulge in culinary delights in over 1200 restaurants and 770 pubs. When it comes to food, the city is as cosmopolitan as its inhabitants. Whether Japanese, French or in a typical Italian ristorante, whether vegan or home-style cooking - whatever is served here is prepared with love. With B&B HOTELS, you can easily find your restaurant in Cologne.

Must try in Cologne

Like many other German cities, Cologne has some culinary specialties and peculiarities to offer. For example, you shouldn't expect half a juicy roast chicken with the “Halver Hahn”! Rather, it is half a rye roll topped with Dutch cheese, raw onions and mustard. Other regional dishes that you should definitely try are Himmel un Ääd, Kottenbutter, Krüstchen, Pillekuchen, kale with Mettwurst sausage, Bierhaxe and Rheinischer Sauerbraten.

The Brauhauskultur in Cologne

The laid-back attitude of the Rhinelanders is also reflected in Cologne's food culture. The breweries in particular have a long tradition. The brewery culture is unconventional and cozy. Here you can enjoy home-brewed Kölsch in accordance with the German Purity Law of 1516 and hearty cuisine for the stomach. At Päffgen, Früh and Haus Unkelbach, the atmosphere is cheerful and exuberant.

In Cologne's breweries, by the way, no waiter brings you your steaming sauerbraten, here they are called Köbes. You can recognize them by their blue woollen jackets and long blue aprons. They are the undisputed rulers of the place, quick-witted journeymen who are usually perceived as unfriendly by non-Cologne residents. Originally, the brewery servants served the guests, but were not trained in the art of “the customer is king”. Hence their often quirky and grumpy manner.

The top places to eat

We have already mentioned that the gastronomy scene in the cathedral city is colorful and diverse. If you don't like going to a brewery and don't want to afford a Michelin-starred restaurant, here is a selection of the best restaurants for every day.

On Lütticher Straße, in the middle of the popular Belgian Quarter, you will find the restaurant of the same name, Lütticher, which is one of the top 10 best restaurants in Cologne. In summer, the terrace beckons, in winter the charming interior. The menu offers a modernized version of Mediterranean cuisine.

Delicious sushi doesn't have to be expensive. Daimyo serves maki from just €3.60. You can also enjoy poké bowls, ramen or chicken teriyaki here. Neobiota is open in the mornings and evenings. For breakfast, there are spring pancakes with rhubarb compote or Wiesn rolls with veal sausage. Fine dining is on the program in the evening: the four-course menu with all-inclusive prices is available from 85 euros.

Chinese noodles and soups taste particularly good at Bai Lu Noodles. All the noodles are homemade and the expertise comes directly from Chongqing, the province known for the best food in China. Would you like to visit a Michelin-starred restaurant without having to spend several hundred euros? Then Maibeck is the place for you! The four-course menu is available from just 46 euros and all dishes are prepared with fresh ingredients.

The HENNE.wine bar awaits you with great food and delicious wines! The selection of top wines is exclusive, but not just for selective professional drinkers. Beginners or natural wine lovers will also be well advised here and get their money's worth.

A wide selection for vegetarians and vegans

Vegetarian and vegan food is available in almost all restaurants, from the Vietnamese Chum Chay to the Korean Gogi Matcha, the Japanese ITO or the Museum Ludwig to the Bieresel, which serves perfect cheese noodles. Vegetarians also get their money's worth at the two-star restaurant OX & Klee.

Vegetarian and vegan brewery fans: don't be sad! Some breweries are modern and offer international or seasonal dishes without meat or with vegan goulash and even no beef burgers. These include the traditional brewery Em Kölsche Boor, Sünner Brauhaus and Hellers Brauhaus. Enjoy your meal!
