Bridge Museum

The Brücke Museum in Berlin Charlottenburg is not just for art enthusiasts. As the only museum in the world that brings together the artworks of an entire group of artists under one roof and also highlights the works of the Brücke painters created between 1905 and 1913, a visit here promises to be a very special experience.

History and significance

Die Brücke was a group of artists founded by various architecture students in Dresden in 1905. The group's painters included Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel, Karl Schmidt-Rotluff and Fritz Bleyl, as well as Otto Mueller, Werner Düttmann and Emil Nolde.  The Brücke advocated a freer understanding of art and used particularly bold colors and striking forms in their numerous works of art such as paintings, watercolors, woodcuts, drawings, sculptures, graphics and prints, and the movement is now considered one of the most important movements of Expressionism. Currently, visitors to the Berliner Brücke Museum not only have the opportunity to admire the multifaceted works of the Brücke artists and various painter friends, but also learn more about the lives and works of the individual members up to the dissolution of the Brücke in May 1913 through the changing exhibitions.

Entrance fees and activities

Founded back in 1967, the museum at Bussardsteig 9, not far from the botanical garden, is a fascinating place to see the influence that the various Brücke artists had on the development of modern art. The museum is a contemporary witness to the contribution that German artists made to the international avant-garde. At the same time, contemporary artists of the early 20th century are also presented in the Brücke Museum, so you should definitely plan enough time for a visit. If you don't want to miss out on this unique art collection during your visit to Berlin, you can experience the museum from Wednesday to Monday from 11:00 to 17:00. The entrance fee for a one-way ticket for adults is just 6 euros. Reduced tickets cost just 4 euros. Admission is free all year round for children up to the age of 18, students of applied arts and people with disabilities. Alternatively, a combined ticket for 8 euros (regular) or 5 euros (reduced) may be worthwhile. This allows you to visit not only the Brücke-Museum but also the Kunsthaus Dahlem. Or you can opt for the practical Museum Pass and benefit from free admission to 30 Berlin museums such as the Kunsthaus Dahlem or well-known classics on Museum Island on three consecutive days. You can find detailed information about this offer at any time on the website visitberlin.de. Or you can take advantage of Museum Sunday, when almost 60 Berlin museums grant you free admission on the first Sunday of every month, to visit some of the best museums free of charge.
