Uberlândia Municipal Museum

Listed as a historical heritage site, the Uberlândia Municipal Museum is also known as the Palace of Lions, one of the most important points in the city. The curious construction is over 100 years old and, at first glance, seems small. When visiting the interior, however, tourists can discover the almost 3,000 pieces on display in this old mansion.

All objects try to tell the history of the municipality and give the cultural context of how the city was formed and became what it is. Inside you will get an idea of how the first farms were formed in the community, with a display of items from that time. You can also see how the houses were built, in a setting that reproduces them impeccably, with a wood stove, table and utensils from that time.

This museum invites visitors to feel like they are in another era in these permanent installations that mimic the simple life of yesteryear. So, if you want to understand Uberlândia's past in a fun way, this is the best place. A curiosity is that the Palace was once the headquarters of the Municipal Chamber of the city and even displays the "Municipal Chamber Exhibition" to tell how this period was.

It is worth mentioning that the monument is part of the Clarimundo Carneiro Square complex, right in front of the museum. The bandstand installed in the square, by the way, is a charming work and asks for a photo!

Museum of the Indian

Opened to the public in 1987, the Museum of the Indian bears its purpose in its name: to shed light on indigenous history, that is, on the roots of Brazil. With an ethnographic collection of 2,500 objects from 80 Brazilian indigenous communities, it is possible to get a sense of the richness of this heritage.

All items on display are contextualized and separated into different areas: ceramics room, playful objects, household comfort objects, among others. The place also holds temporary public exhibitions, which have even had repercussions in foreign countries. It is worth it, after all, indigenous culture and work belong to all of us and seeing these fragments of history is incredible!

Culture House

In the central region of the city is the Casa da Cultura (Culture House), which is an architectural symbol of Uberlândia, inspired by a mansion in São Paulo. Today called the Culture House, in the past it served as a residence for Colonel Eduardo Marquez, in the 1920s. After a few years, it was sold to other wealthy personalities of the time.

It was only in 1985 that the house fulfilled its cultural duty: it began to exhibit some engravings, which are part of the collection of the Municipal Department of Culture. This collection has metal engravings, silkscreens and woodcuts by well-known artists such as Cícero Dias, Babinski, and other names. Even today, its spaces are used to host events and other activities.

University Museum of Art

At the foot of Praça Tubal Vilela, the University Museum of Art is like a university gallery and occupies a historic building. It functions as an artistic collection and has been expanding its collection started in the 1980s. The project has more than 750 pieces on display, created by local, national and international artists. The condominium also promotes activities related to university research and extension. For those who want an updated look at Minas Gerais art and feel the student vein that inspires it, it's worth the trip!
