The Old Town Hall in Bamberg is truly a curiosity: just as amazing as its history are the frescoes that adorn the facade of the building.
According to legend, the bishop of Bamberg did not want to grant the citizens space to build a town hall. Therefore, the Bambergers rammed piles into the Regnitz River and created an artificial island on which they erected the building.
The Old Town Hall is remarkable above all for its frescoes, which lend the facade plasticity through mock architecture. A special detail always provides amusement: the leg of one of the putti protrudes as a sculpture from the wall frescoes. Today, the Old Town Hall houses the representative Rococo Hall and the Ludwig Collection.
