Visit Tomaszow Lubelski
Tomaszow Lubelski is a town located in Lubelskie province, on the border of Roztocze and Grzêda Sokalska, on the river called Sołokija. The beginning of its history dates back to the 16th century, when there was a settlement in the area called Jelitow. The year 1613 turned out to be a breakthrough, when it gained city rights and a new "name". This happened in honor of the son of the famous Jan Zamoyski - Thomas. The Zamoyski family, by the way, was instrumental in the development of this town, as well as others in the region.
A comfortable base from Tomaszow Lubelski
B&B HOTEL Tomaszow Lubelski is not only a facility in close proximity to the city's biggest attractions, but also an excellent point from which to start your travels to other parts of the Roztocze. Among the recommended tourist destinations to visit are: Zamosc, Zwierzyniec, Susiec, Majdan Sopocki, Józefów , Krasnobród and Horyniec Zdrój.
Tomaszów Lubelski monuments you must see
The Renaissance Market Square in Tomaszow Lubelski is precisely the point on the map from which we recommend starting your tour of the entire city. It constitutes the center of the former urban layout. Although much of the urban layout was significantly rebuilt after the destruction of World War II, it is here that you will find Tomaszow's most valuable monuments and remnants of the city's Renaissance plan.
Parish Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The larch Baroque church at the intersection of Królewska and Kościelna Streets is a true architectural gem. It was built in 1627, and rebuilt a century later
and renovated after the turmoil of World War I and World War II. It has undergone the most recent thorough renovation and restoration work since 1990, and we can admire the results today. It delights not only from the outside, but its interior is also impressive. Suffice it to mention the Mannerist altar, in which the image of Our Lady of the Scapular has been placed, or the restored paintings of saints. Without a doubt, this is one of the most interesting monuments of wooden architecture in our country. Also the surroundings of the church are noteworthy. After all, right next to it is a wooden log bell tower from the 18th century and a parish cemetery.
St. Nicholas Orthodox Church
A three-minute walk from the Parish Church of St. Nicholas. NMP we come across another
of the sacred monuments of Tomaszów Lubelski. It is a magnificent brick Orthodox Church from the late 19th century, which is located on Starocerkiewna Street. The distinctive building with four turrets and vividly colored facade attracts the eye and invites to visit the interior with rich ornamentation. The most valuable icon located in the church is more than 400 years old. This is a place that certainly no one will pass by indifferently.
"Teahouse"
Another interesting and architecturally original monument in Tomaszow Lubelski is the wooden building of the so-called "Herbaciarnia" from 1895, located in the Market Square. Initially it served as just a teahouse, then as a theater house during the interwar period, and after World War II as a people's house. The building itself is made of thick wooden logs in the Russian style.
Other sights of Tomaszow Lubelski
Other places worth looking at during your stay in Tomaszów include: The Bujalski and Bohlen family tomb from the turn of the 19th/20th century, the former mill on November 29 Street, the building of the Second High School, built in 1923-1925 on Żwirki i Wigury Street, or the historic headquarters of the fire brigade with its tower and clock, where the State Music School is now located. Nearby B&B HOTEL Tomaszow Lubelski, on Lwowska Street, in turn, are three other interesting buildings. One is the so-called Cybulowka, which is the residential villa of Dr. S. Cybulski from 1934, and today the headquarters of the Sanitary Inspectorate. The second is the building of the former district assembly from 1922-1925, while the third is the District Court, once the seat of the Landowners' Union.
What else is worth visiting and seeing in Tomaszow Lubelski?
Regional Museum named after Janusz Peter
For those who want to get to know the history of Tomaszów Lubelski and its surroundings well, a must-see during a visit to the city will be the Dr. Janusz Peter Regional Museum. It is located in the Veteran's House at 2 Zamojska St. Visiting it, you can get acquainted with permanent exhibitions on the prehistory of the Tomaszów land, the history of the city, as well as the folk culture of the region. It is all the more worthwhile, since the museum collections are extremely rich - they include more than 11 thousand exhibits. Dr. Janusz Peter himself, after whom the museum is named, was a respected doctor and director of the local hospital, as well as a great lover of the Tomaszow Land.
The city's monuments and history are one thing, but the Tomaszow Lubelski area itself is also stunning! All thanks to the fact that it is surrounded by forested areas of three landscape parks - Krasnobrodzki, Południoworoztoczanski and Puszcza Solska. The numerous natural monuments located in them will surely be remembered by everyone for a long time. In turn, only 35 km separates the city from the border of the Roztocze National Park. Therefore, any lover of hiking, biking, fishing, mushroom picking or bird watching will feel like in paradise here.
As many as three extremely interesting nature and landscape trails pass through Tomaszów Lubelski. The first of these is the "Historic Route" (green), which is 66 km long. It runs through the picturesque hills of Grzęda Sokalska and Central Roztocze. The most interesting points along the route are the geological reserve "Piekiełko" with 68 erratic boulders, the largest of which has a circumference of 10 meters, as well as Biała Góra (350 meters above sea level). This hill is home to rare steppe plants, such as spring lovage, common milkweed, thistle, sedge, dwarf cherry and golden flax. Interestingly, in winter a ski lift operates on the northwestern slope of White Mountain.
Reconstructions of the September campaign battles
Also, lovers of World War II history and militaria should be satisfied with their stay
in Tomaszów Lubelski, especially if they come here in September. Since 2008, the City Council has been organizing spectacular reconstructions of two battles fought by the armies of the "Cracow", "Lublin" and "Northern Front" armies against German troops. These skirmishes are counted among the largest in the September campaign. It is really worth experiencing and seeing.
Immerse yourself in the Roztocze nature
The second of the trails, the "freedom" trail (red) is 42 km long. Following it, we visit the Central Roztocze area and the forests and charms of Eastern Roztocze. Along its route you will come across many places commemorating World War II, including the Museum-Memorial Site created on the grounds of the Nazi death camp in Belzec.
The last is the "Partisan Battles Trail" (black). It is the longest, as it is 102 km,
and runs through the eastern part of Central Roztocze. It is most impressive for its numerous small waterfalls, which are called "hummocks," centuries-old oak trees, wooden chapels and the larch church of St. Stanislaus the Bishop from 1768.
Attractive monuments of the city, geographical location, natural and scenic-tourist values around Tomaszow Lubelski make all lovers of sightseeing, nature and active recreation will certainly have something to do here. B&B HOTEL Tomaszow Lubelski is a place from which all attractions are at your fingertips.
