What to do during your stay in Meyreuil

You are soon going to put down your suitcases in the Bouches-du-Rhône to visit this department which is full of tourist sites. And why not have a stay in Meyreuil, near Aix-en-Provence? Discover the many advantages of finding accommodation in this village.

What is the point of a stay in Meyreuil?

A village close to the big cities of the 13

Meyreuil is a pretty village located just 12 kilometers from Aix-en-Provence, the sub-prefecture of the Bouches-du-Rhône. This proximity allows you to reach it quickly, whether you go there by car or by bus. Marseille and the Calanques National Park are also not very far. This will allow you to explore these two places during your stay in Meyreuil.

Enjoy the countryside and the calm

You can enjoy a greener setting, surrounded by the Aix countryside which largely influenced Paul Cézanne in his paintings. The village is not lacking in charm, especially in the old part of the town. If you wanted to observe the landscapes of Provence, this is the ideal place. The village offers a splendid view of the Sainte-Victoire mountain, a real natural jewel that the Provençals are proud of.

Many hikes await you in the surrounding area: walking friends, you will have a treat! Various trails with different difficulties are to be followed to discover the Aix countryside.

The other advantage in Meyreuil is its calm which will soothe you. The large urban areas are practical, but can be quite stressful because of pollution and noise. Let's not talk about traffic jams which are a plague!

More attractive prices with access to various shops

In terms of parking, you will have no problem finding a place to park without fearing for your vehicle. This is not the case in cities where parking is never free. In terms of price, moving away also allows you to benefit from more advantageous prices on accommodation in general.

Finally, even if it is a village, you will find shops, especially in the Canet district of Meyreuil. If you are looking for restaurants, you will not need to go to Aix to enjoy Provençal dishes.

What to visit in addition to Meyreuil and its surroundings?

Aix-en-Provence as a priority

You absolutely must devote at least one day to the old town of Aix-en-Provence. This city of art and water is a must-see tourist site in Provence because of its monuments and its Cours Mirabeau. Walking through its streets will take you through centuries of history: from ancient Rome to the present day. Despite its urbanization, the Aix commune has managed to keep an identity of its own. After a magnificent walk, you can relax in its thermal baths!

Outside of Aix, the pretty Albertas Gardens will allow you to relax by observing a garden in the Renaissance style.

Marseille

Although some tourist guides tend to include Marseille in the Côte d'Azur, the Phocaean city is not part of it. The second largest city in France is to be explored if you have time during your stay in Meyreuil. Indeed, a whole day will not allow you to fully enjoy the city.

If you have to focus on the main tourist destinations, favor these places:

  • the Old Port and the Panier district: probably the most iconic and popular Marseille sites for visitors. The Panier district is the oldest in the town;
  • the Palais Longchamp: appreciated for its sublime architecture and its equally magnificent park, it is an important site to visit. It was used to bring water into the city. You will also find museums there, such as the Museum of Fine Arts or the Museum of Natural History;
  • l’Estaque: small village north of Marseille which makes you want to improvise as a painter by strolling through its alleys.

Marseille is only a 40-minute drive from Meyreuil via the A7 highway.

The Calanques National Park

Between hiking, boat trips, canoeing, climbing and diving, the Calanques National Park is full of activities to do. Here, you will enjoy water with emerald or blue hues, depending on the weather. This place is truly a paradise for discovering local flora and fauna with the scent of sea breeze dominating the place.

You only have an hour's drive via the A52 to arrive in the park. Our advice? Get up early to avoid the crowds, but especially the scorching heat in summer.
