Are you staying at our modern B&B Hotel Stuttgart Bad Cannstatt? Then you're only two subway stops away from the Mercedes Benz Arena Stuttgart! Why is it so worth seeing? As the heart of the Neckarpark, the popularly known Neckarstadion is not only the home ground of the Bundesliga soccer team VfB Stuttgart. Major events such as concerts are also regularly organized here. In addition to Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones and Herbert Grönemeyer, Robbie William, Phil Collins and Pink have also performed here.
B&B Hotels will guide you through this unique event area and inform you about all events and the most important institutions around the Mercedes Benz Arena.
Neckarpark and the soccer stadium are located in the northern Stuttgart district of Bad Cannstatt on the right bank of the Neckar. In 2005, the sports and event area around the Gottlieb Daimler Stadium, or the MHPArena as it will officially be called from 2023, was renamed Neckarpark. The arena was completed in 1933 and renamed several times, which is understandable given the year it was opened.
The stadium at the time had a special feature: It had the first grandstand in Germany with a cantilevered, column-free roof made of reinforced concrete. During the occupation, the Americans used the arena, renamed Century Stadium, for baseball games. It was later renamed Kampfbahn again and finally Neckarstadion.
The architects Bonatz and Scholer, who were also responsible for the construction of Stuttgart's railroad station, laid another major milestone in the city's architectural history. Back then, the stadium offered space for around 40,000 spectators, while today's capacity is over 60,000. This makes the Stuttgart Arena the sixth largest stadium in Germany.
Of course, the stadium is first and foremost for soccer! Alexander Wehrle, former managing director of 1. FC Köln, has been chairman of the board of VfB Stuttgart since 2022. The arena has not only hosted legendary boxing matches such as Schmeling-Heuser or World and European Championships in athletics. Spectators also witnessed emotional soccer matches here, some of which have gone down in history, such as the “Battle of Stuttgart in the Heat”, the final of the 1949 German soccer championship between Mannheim and Borussia Dortmund.
In 2008, the stadium was converted into a pure soccer arena. Today, it is mainly VfB Stuttgart's home matches that take place in its own stadium. The latest news: Stuttgart's MHP Arena is one of ten German venues for the 2024 European Football Championship. Five matches will be played in the Swabian metropolis, including the quarter-finals in July at 6 pm. For insiders: Stuttgart is currently in third place in the Bundesliga table.
As one of the most extraordinary event locations in Baden-Württemberg, the arena has already experienced many emotional and exciting highlights: motor sport events, athletics, Eurobowl and other sporting competitions, corporate events. But concert events have also regularly found their way into the arena. The Rolling Stones, for example, have played in Stuttgart three times since 1976.
In addition to B2run, Stars & Cars or the finish of the Stuttgart Run, the MHP Arena is also used for upcoming major events: a concert by Pink, the Helene Fischer 360° Tour or for Teddy Teclebrhan.
For special occasions, the various rooms in the arena can be hired for individual events such as theater, graduation balls, weddings, workshops or congresses. Whether the multimedia box with direct access to the grandstand, the stylish club room with integrated catering station or the 560 square meter covered roof terrace with a view of the vineyards and Stuttgart's TV tower - there is a wide selection to suit different requirements, occasions and budgets.
Neckarpark, with around 20 sports, cultural and tourist facilities, covers an area of 55 hectares. The event area is best known for the annual Cannstatter Frühlingsfest and the Cannstatter Volksfest on the Wasen.
The Neckarpark is also home to the Mercedes Benz Museum, the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle, the streetcar museum and the Porsche Arena. And if you want to get some exercise yourself, you can let off steam in the 25-meter and 50-meter pools at the sports pool.
Even if sport is the main focus in Bad Cannstatt, the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle offers a wide range of cultural events including opera performances, pop concerts and comedy shows. So if you are looking for cultural entertainment, Neckarpark is the place to be.
