Funkturm Berlin

The 147-metre-high Berlin Radio Tower is almost as famous as the Berlin Television Tower in the city center. Alongside the Brandenburg Gate, the Victory Column and the Reichstag, it is not only one of the most important buildings in the German capital, but also one of Berlin's landmarks. Thousands of national and international visitors are drawn to Charlottenburg every year to visit the tower with its impressive viewing platform or the surrounding trade fair grounds. Since its inauguration on September 3, 1926, more than 17 million visitors have made the ascent to lofty heights to enjoy the fantastic view over the entire exhibition grounds, the International Congress Center (ICC), the Grunewald forest, the surrounding lakes and, last but not least, Berlin itself. If you don't want to miss out on a visit to the tower, you can find out more about the tower, its history and much more here.

Special features of the Berliner Funkturms

Radio broadcasts as well as television test broadcasts and the first ever television program were aired from the radio tower, and ARD also broadcast from here from 1952. In recent years, however, the almost 150-metre-high tower has mainly attracted visitors as a viewing tower and because of its restaurant. These two areas are still open to the public today, so you should definitely not miss out on a visit to the radio tower. So if you want to dine at lofty heights and enjoy the magnificent view over the Spree metropolis, the cantilevered restaurant is just the place for you. Around 116 guests can dine here every Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at a height of over 50 meters. So take a seat, enjoy the high-quality Art Nouveau furnishings and let yourself be enchanted by the charm of the 1920s. At the same time, you can choose between various à la carte dishes or enjoy the fantastic themed buffet, which is put together anew every month for all visitors. The old radio tower is also an excellent option if you are planning a larger celebration or event. Visitors with a head for heights can then take the glass elevator up to the 126-metre-high viewing platform. Directly behind the modern glass cladding, you then have the opportunity to enjoy a breathtaking view over the exhibition grounds, the Olympic Stadium, the Memorial Church, Teufelsberg and many other highlights of the capital. Weather permitting, you can see as far as 30 kilometers from here. Please note, however, that the viewing platform is only open on Friday and Saturday from 13:00 to 22:30.

Directions and parking facilities

If you already have a map of Berlin, you will recognize that the Funkturm is located in the Charlottenburg district. By train, for example, it is worth taking the S-Bahn directly from the main station in the city center to the Messegelände stop. It won't take you long at all! Just a 25-minute ride and you are at the Funkturm. Alternatively, you can also arrive in your own car and park your vehicle in one of the paid parking lots at the exhibition center. Whatever you decide, don't limit your visit to Charlottenburg to a trip to the radio tower. The beautiful Charlottenburg Palace is very close by and the impressive Olympic Stadium and the Brücke Museum are not far away either. So make the most of your time and explore this part of Berlin with plenty of time to spare.
