Stuttgart Spring Festival

The biggest spring festival in Europe takes place in Stuttgart! Between mid-April and early May, around one million visitors enjoy a lively and festive atmosphere that delights young and old alike. Are you planning your vacation or just in town? Don't miss out on this fascinating folk festival! Our B&B Hotel in Stuttgart Bad-Cannstatt is less than a 10-minute walk from the festival grounds. This is the perfect opportunity!

The Stuttgart Spring Festival is not only a place to celebrate, but also a meeting place for community and tradition. Around 250 businesses over a length of 3.2 kilometers bring people of all ages and backgrounds together to celebrate spring in a festive and atmospheric atmosphere. The festival is not only a highlight in Stuttgart's calendar of events, but also an important cultural heritage that reflects the region's joie de vivre.

What awaits me in the festival tents?

The spring festival takes place on the Cannstatter Wasen, an extensive event site in the Bad Cannstatt district of Stuttgart.

The festival tents

Numerous festival tents are spread across the grounds directly on the idyllic Neckar. In this unique setting, visitors can enjoy the well-known cozy festival tent atmosphere. There is traditional brass band music, good food and, of course, plenty of beer. Each tent represents a different brewery and offers a wide range from traditional to craft beers.

  • The alpine hut village, for example, offers alpine flair with a large selection of selected stands such as traditional costume stores. Live music and a carousel bar are of course also part of the program.

  • The Göckelssmaier marquee is also a great place to celebrate with a mixture of tradition, enjoyment and party. Whether freshly tapped Maß or sparkling wine, crispy Göckele or selected vegan specialties - the Göckelesmaier leaves nothing to be desired. Dinkelacker beer from the family brewery is served here. You can also retreat to cozy boxes or small alcoves, linger in the beer garden or watch the hustle and bustle on the Wasen from the Bierbock box.

  • In Grandl's Hofbräu festival tent, landlord Hans-Peter Grandl treats his guests to rustic snacks, delicious grilled knuckle of pork and crispy Göckele. The beer served is Stuttgarter Hofbräu, the most popular beer in the country.

  • The Wasenwirt marquee, operated by Weeber Festzeltbetrieb GmbH, is known for SWR3-Wasenparties, SparBier promotions, Nights of the Students and many other program highlights. Top DJs from SWR3 and DASDING play here and bring the marquee to the boil. The Wasenwirt can accommodate around 3,800 guests, and the Stuttgarter Hofbräu Lounge can be reserved for a very special stay. The lounge impresses with its high-quality wooden interior, its own menu and a separate bar and toilet area and is the ideal place for company events or a relaxed get-together with friends.

  • The Almhütte Royal is reminiscent of a mountain hut and welcomes its guests with selected wines, fine fruit brandies, delicious Pils or Hefeweizen. Here you can look both outside and inside, as the gable is completely glazed. Numerous live bands ensure a good atmosphere.

Tip: Access to the tents is free at all times. However, please note that the tents are closed as soon as the maximum number of people has been reached. To make sure you get a place, you can book in advance with the host.

The rides - not only for children

Another highlight at the spring festival are the rides. From the nostalgic Ferris wheel to thrilling rollercoasters and family-friendly carousels, there is something for every taste and every age. The colorful lights and sounds of the rides add to the festive atmosphere and the joy of the visitors can be seen in the beaming faces of the passengers.

Market stands and more

In addition to fairground rides, stalls and marquees, there are numerous market stalls offering everything from arts and crafts to culinary delights. At the Krämermarkt, you can sample local specialties, admire traditional arts and crafts or browse for original souvenirs.

Around 20 traders offer textiles, leather and household goods, jewelry, art, tea, spices, cosmetics and gifts on the Wasen in the direction of König-Karls-Brücke. Away from the hustle and bustle of the fair, you can stroll and shop to your heart's content in a relaxed atmosphere.

Open your eyes: Do you see a rabbit hopping across the square? Then that's the Wasenhasi! He is the official mascot of the Wasen. You can regularly see him hopping around in the afternoon during the festival and have your photo taken with him.

The counterpart to Cannstatter Wasen

Twice a year, the Wasen in Bad Cannstatt becomes a magnet for locals and tourists alike. Both the Stuttgart Spring Festival and the Cannstatt Folk Festival take place on the festival grounds on the Neckar. A total of around 5 million people visit the two festivals every year.

The first spring festival dates back to the 1930s, while the folk festival is older: the first Cannstatter Wasen is said to have taken place in 1818. While the Cannstatter Volksfest is celebrated from the end of September to the beginning of October, the Stuttgart Spring Festival lives up to its name and takes place in spring.
