This is the Curious Zoo of Oviedo

The Zoo of Oviedo, called 'The Forest' is a different and special place, as it is a recovery and rescue zoo, which does not receive public subsidies and remains open thanks to donations and the sale of tickets of those who come to visit it. All the animals in this zoo are in it because they have been rescued after being abandoned, mistreated or seized. In addition, this zoo is only open from March 1st to December 9th. While from December 9th to February 38th it only does so on weekends. So in the Christmas and winter season it is more difficult to make a visit.

As for the species of animals that we can find in 'The Forest', there are many and very varied. It has up to 60 different types of birds, from macaws to different types of parrots, emus, swans, eagles and many others that can be found in this zoological enclosure. Among the mammal species, we find different types of monkeys such as the squirrel monkey or the capuchin monkey, meerkats, lynxes or lemurs.

In addition to animals, in this zoo, we will also find different botanical species that are not usually seen in the Spanish geography such as the Canary cedar, the sumac, the sword fern and many others, as there are up to 60 different species. Something that makes this enclosure a special place.

How to get to the zoo of Oviedo?

This zoo is located 3.5 kilometers from Oviedo so you have to arrive by car or bus. Line 1 is the closest bus to the zoo if we get off at the 'El Calderu' stop and then we would have to walk between 10 and 15 minutes. It is a good option to arrive here by public transport and make a visit to see some species of animals that you have not seen before. Although yes, here we will not see such striking species as wolves or an Asian tigress, since they are animals that have been rescued.

To be able to access 'El Bosque' in Oviedo better, we can download the transport application to know the bus lines of the city and know where they pass to be able to access the famous and curious zoo of Oviedo without getting lost in the area and using the transport lines at our disposal.

Now, if we search Google Zoo Oviedo it is possible that we will find some results that can lead us to error. It is common to find that there is a Zoo Posse concert in Oviedo, and so it is, but Zoo Posse is a Catalan music group that will perform in the capital in 2022, although the location is not yet known. It is very likely that there will be no concert in the zoo of Oviedo. Just as if we are fans of the group and want to see Zoo Posse in Oviedo, we can not confuse it with the real zoo of the city.

On the other hand, the result of Hobby Zoo Oviedo also appears. Hobby Zoo is also not a zoo, but it is a pet store that was located in the Los Prados shopping center and that closed and is now located in Intu Asturias.

So, in order not to confuse addresses or objectives, the Zoo of Oviedo is the one located in San Esteban de las Cruces 3.5 kilometers from the capital. As for tickets, they can be taken electronically, as well as donations to the zoo, which can also be deducted from the payment of taxes.
