The castellany of the Abbot of Saint-Denis in the 9th century, Villepinte developed greatly in the Middle Ages, eventually becoming its own parish in the 13th century. In the 20th century, the city saw small residential neighbourhoods spring up, followed by urban zones on former farmlands, dividing the city into different areas without a single city centre.

If you feel like a boat trip, you can drift down the Ourcq Canal, which winds its away across the Seine-Saint-Denis area.
