The late Romanesque Cathedral of St. Peter of the diocese of Osnabrück has been an important part of the city’s landscape ever since it was first built. The oldest surviving elements of the church are the baptismal font, dating from 1220, and the triumphal cross which dates from 1230. An array of other precious artefacts from the past 10 centuries are stored in the cathedral treasury.

The historic, late-Gothic town hall is a significant landmark and one of the city’s most distinctive buildings. Preliminary negotiations for the Peace Treaty of Westphalia were held here, bringing an end to the 30 Year’s War.
