Neuss is among the oldest cities in Germany – its setting on the Rhine has been appreciated since Roman times. More than 2000 years later, the city has evolved into a lively centre, proud of its past whilst enjoying all the advantages of the here and now. The close proximity to Düsseldorf is an added attraction for Neuss, irrespective of whether you are travelling for business or pleasure. Neuss’ attractions are all within easy reach, as is the conference hall, airport and central Düsseldorf - the B&B Hotel Neuss offers convenient connections either via the autobahn or with public transport. One of the city’s most important landmarks is also among the most significant late-Romantic churches in the Lower Rhine Over the passage of time, this Wolbero-crafted building has undergone substantial changes, the most notably following a fire in 1741. Its baroque dome is decorated with a statue of St. Quirinus. In 2009, Pope Benedict XVI elevated the church to the status of abasilica minor
City and cultural history since the Roman times is brought to life in the Clemens Sels Museum in Neuss. This modern, multi-sectional building is internationally admired, particularly for its symbolism collection. The museum also houses numerous high-caliber works from the pre-Raphaelite era, as well as Expressionist and Naive works, with a host of colourful paintings making up the museum’s unique collection. Temporary exhibitions, festivals, cultural evenings, tours, workshops and family days: Visitors will be inspired by the depth and creativity of the programmes on offer.
A place where nature is within touching distance. Hens, goats, sheep, horses and pigs live on the children’s farm in the city’s Selikum district. Upon entering the paved courtyard, visitors are immediately struck by the scent of hay and pastures, of horse manure and pig pens. Roosters crow and rabbits hops cheerfully around, mingling with goats and guinea fowl in the outdoor enclosures. Wherever you look, there’s something to pat, stroke, hear or smell. Located near to the Reuschenberger Busch recreation area, this farm was opened in 1978 by the City of Neuss to give local children an experience of life on a farm and to give them a feel for the natural world. Whether adults, young people or children: The children’s farm is the natural world at touching distance.
Hombroich is a museum, artistic and architectural centre, where various artistic and cultural events, including literary, musical and philosphical, take place. Created as an ‘open experiment’ built upon the commitments of private collectors and artists associated with Hombroich, the Hombroich Island foundation and Museum were established in 1997, along with the rocket station and Kirkeby field to create a cultural space in which independent partners could be supported: The Langen Foundation, the sculpture hall of the Thomas Schütte Foundation and the Feld-Haus Museum for popular prints. The Hombroich Island Foundation and its partner institutions each contribute individually to the Hombroich cultural centre by organising their own exhibitions, symposia and concerts.
The mountains are so close. Particularly in Neuss. What began back in 2001 as Germany’s first indoor ski hall has evolved into a year-round leisure park and recreational facility, offering a host of sporting activities. Occupying an area of around 150.000 m², a climbing park, alpine golf and football area have been added to the original indoor skiing facility. Alpenpark’s various leisure facilities have one thing in common: Movement, action and fun in an Alpine atmosphere.
