All you need to know about the Jerez zoo

The Jerez Zoobotanical Garden: a different zoo

The Jerez Zoobotanical Garden is more than just a zoo, as it tries to conserve species, research, and impart knowledge to visitors. Within the enclosure, we can find an extensive variety of animals and plants, which become a great attraction for nature lovers. But not only that, the place also houses a large number of threatened species for their protection. In addition, it also develops educational activities and conservation work, which makes it one of the most interesting zoos in Spain.

Zoological collection

The Jerez de la Frontera Zoobotanical Garden has the most important collection in Andalusia, as it has more than 900 animals belonging to 180 species. The uniqueness of the zoo lies in the number of endangered animals that inhabit this zoo, for which it also has reproduction projects. Thus, among its specimens we can see the Iberian lynx or the northern bald ibis, as well as all kinds of birds, including some that are not usually seen.

Botanical collection

Its botanical collection, featuring the famous Tempul gardens, is one of the great attractions of the site. This large collection began to take shape in 1869 to create one of the most unique wooded parks in Cádiz. There we can see impressive palm trees, pine trees, rarer species such as the Araar or Himalayan cedar. In total, more than 1,000 trees are part of this Jerez zoobotanical garden, which has become a very important conservation and dissemination center.

Tickets and when to go

Surely you are planning to include a stop at this zoo in your route to spend a day surrounded by nature and very unique animals. The most important thing is to know that the zoo is open every month of the year, including Christmas days to do activities with children. Tickets must be purchased at the ticket office and can be visited on foot from the city, as the address is quite central due to the antiquity of the site.

Within the zoo we can visit its restaurants and check the different programs if we want to carry out an activity during our visit. If we want to know any specific information, the Jerez City Council has a visitor service at the zoo.
