The Tricasses, a Celtic community from the region of Lyon, who settled on the ledge of the Seine in the Aube region, gave Troyes its name in the 3rd century. Later, the city was the setting of many significant historical events, such as the defeat of Attila the Hun, the birthplace of the Earldom and the Fairs of Champagne, the passage of King Charles IX in 1564 during his royal tour of France, and the place for the signing of the Treaty of Troyes during the Hundred Years’ War.
