Whether you’re travelling alone, as a couple or with your kids, discover our selection of the top activities for visitors and best cultural spots between the lake and the mountains. Follow the guide!

There’s no shortage of scenic walks in Lausanne. You’ll be able to walk along the quays of Ouchy south of the city from the garden of the flower clock. These offer you the best possible view of Lake Geneva from its coast, opposite Evian.

Enjoy the calm of this peaceful area to take a break during your walk at Vidy beach, just to stop off for a swim.

Take advantage of your stroll along the shores of Lake Geneva to stop at the table of a restaurant or the terrace of a café bar to enjoy one of the dishes offered à la carte whilst enjoying the superb view of Lake Geneva.

The city of Lausanne is closely associate with its reputation in terms of gastronomy and for the many chefs who have practiced the art of fine cuisine in the town and its surroundings, such as Franck Giovannini.

The city centre of Lausanne also has a large number of places open to visitors which we advise you to take the time to discover.

So, amongst the museums located in the heart of the city, visit the Olympic Museum, and enrich your personal knowledge about the history and evolution of the Olympic Games since their creation.

To keep this mood going, know that the city of Lausanne has many museums covering various subject areas. The Roman Museum of Lausanne-Vidy offers you a journey into Antiquity whilst the Museum of the Hand, perfect for families, invites you to bring out your inner child by (re)discovering the physical and medical sciences. The offer of museums is so rich in Lausanne that our list of tips may never end. We end our tour of museums with the Palais de Rumine which houses several of these institutions, such as the Museum of Archaeology and History or the Museum of Natural Sciences.

Are you an art lover? Head over to this locality which is the Collection de l'Art Brut in the centre of Lausanne. You’ll discover a workshop/gallery containing works that share one particular aspect. Indeed, these works are not subject to any rules whatsoever and don’t respond to any classical constraints of the contemporary art world. The artists follow their unique visions in order to offer a new composition that reflects their spirit.

Just a stone's throw from Lausanne train station and, before you board your train, go for a walk on Platform 10 which brings together three museums with very similar themes. A single ticket will give you access to the Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts as well as the Cantonal Museum of Design and Contemporary Applied Arts and the Cantonal Museum for Photography.

The city of Lausanne takes concrete action aimed at developing its attractiveness and ensuring the protection of the surrounding regions. These projects are supervised by the SDOL (Strategy and Development of Western Lausanne) bureau and involve all the municipalities on the outskirts of Lausanne such as Bussigny or Renens. These initiatives result in the construction of new residences, shops or functional premises for companies wishing to set up in the region.

A must during your visit to Lausanne is a trip to the cathedral, located a few metres west of the CHUV (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois) and south of the beautiful Château St-Maire, an excellent thing to do for families, near the hotel. Located within the medieval town, in the heart of the city, the cathedral overlooks the city from the top of its belfry. It is considered one of the finest examples of Gothic religious art in European history.

In the evening, go for a walk along the Esplanade du Flon. This former industrial area has now become a popular district where Lausannois meet to go to a restaurant or one of the bars lining the square. Take a seat on one of the terraces of one of the many restaurants, and take this opportunity to taste the local specialities.

Popular in Lausanne and, more broadly, withing the Vaud region, papet vaudois is a winter dish consisting of a cabbage sausage served with a mixture of potatoes, leeks and a cream of white .
