The Les Sybelles ski area

The Les Sybelles ski area, with a maximum elevation of 2600 metres, is comprised of 310 kilometres of ski runs and 6 ski resorts/villages: La Toussuire, Le Corbier, Saint Jean d'Arves, Les Bottières, Saint Colomban des Villards and Saint Sorlin d'Arves. It is the largest ski area in the Maurienne Valley, and a great deal for an affordable family ski holiday (with day passes starting at 25€), thanks to its small, family-friendly resorts offering an enjoyable holiday for children and adults alike.

Distance: Located just 9 kilometres and a 15-minute drive from Saint Jean de Maurienne, it is a quick, easy day trip from the B&B Hotel Saint Jean de Maurienne.

The Albiez Montrond ski resort

The Albiez Montrond ski resort, with its 35 kilometres of ski runs, is a lovely little ski resort in the Alps, accessible to young children and beginners. It is the perfect place for ski holidays on a budget, thanks to its affordable rates (starting at 17€ per day). Nature lovers are in luck—the area also offers beautiful scenery and cross-country ski trails for outings with your family. It is located just 16 kilometres, a 27-minute drive, from Saint Jean de Maurienne.

The Galibier-Thabor ski area

The Galibier-Thabor ski area includes parts of the Valloire and Valmeinier ski resorts, and reaches a maximum elevation of 2600 metres. It is accessible to skiers of all levels, from beginner to expert, thanks to its ski runs with varying degrees of difficulty, its slalom course and its snow park. It is a family-friendly ski area, with the Famille Montagne Plus certification, offering an affordable family package that costs around 700€ for the week for 2 adults and 2 children. Numerous activities are offered throughout the day (snowshoe walks, dogsled rides, etc.) and in the evening (concerts, nightclubs, and more.)

The Orelle ski area

Orelle is the only resort attached to the Trois Vallées resort, by way of the Val Thorens ski resort. Located just 15 kilometres from the B&B Hotel Saint Jean de Maurienne, it is a perfect place to go skiing in Val Thorens.

Cycling in the Maurienne Valley

The Maurienne Valley is famous as the world’s largest cycling area. The area includes 1600 kilometres of roads and 1300 kilometres of mountain biking trails. Its 11 peaks are also part of its claim to fame: the Col du Glandon, Col du Galibier, Col de l’Iseran, Col de la Croix de Fer and more.

The peaks of the Maurienne Valley are generally open from the end of March/beginning of April until November, letting cyclists enjoy the area from Easter, through the summer and even into the autumn.

The Maurienne Valley offers well-marked bicycle trails such as the Mauriennaise Cyclo, and has something for everyone, from amateurs to professionals.
