The best tips for a successful Leipzig tour

In the immediate vicinity of our hotels, there is a wide range of cultural and entertainment offers in Leipzig. You should definitely visit a museum in the pulsating cultural city! For music lovers, for example, the Bach Museum, the Mendelssohn Museum or the Grassi Museum for musical instruments are worthwhile. Here you will not only find out how Bach or Mendelssohn lived and worked, but you can also experience numerous music examples or concerts by the virtuosos and compose your own pieces on the piano and organ in the sound laboratories.

The Zoo is an equally popular classic. Here you can discover 850 different animal species in six fascinating adventure worlds. In addition to life-size dinosaurs and adventurous playgrounds, a safari tour and a gold prospecting facility await zoo visitors. Another highlight is of course the boat trip on the jungle river in Gondwanaland, where you can roam through the history of the earth from mysterious perspectives. An educational treat for parents and children! By the way, entry for children under the age of six is free. You can find further recommendations, especially for staying in Leipzig with children, in our specially written article.

The Monument to the Battle of the Nations is an important stage in the historical exploration of the city and the region. One hundred years after the first mass battle in human history, the monumental building was opened and summarizes the war memories on three levels. Enjoy the wonderful view of the surroundings at a height of 91 meters.

You will experience a real all-round highlight in the Panometer Leipzig. Since 2003, visitors have turned their heads here to marvel at the stunning panoramic paintings by German artist and architect Yadegar Assisi. A lot of space is needed for the 32 meter high circular images, which are printed using the latest technology and have found their home in the former gasometer. It is not for nothing that they are the largest and probably most famous panorama pictures! Project-related exhibitions and film screenings also await you in the Panometer.

Nature lovers, however, prefer to spend an afternoon in the countryside. The Leipzig Neuseenland is particularly suitable for this. At Lake Cospuden you can really unwind, but you can also learn to dive or row a boat. Due to the good wind conditions, the Cospudener See is also the perfect place for sailors, surfers or kite surfers. You can also hike through the floodplain landscape of the Weißen Elster or cycle around the lake in about 45 minutes on the ten-kilometer, paved path along the shore.

But there is also a climbing and canoe park waiting for guests at Lake Markkleeberg. Another highlight - on foot, by bike or Segway - is the nine kilometer long, varied circular route. It passes all the sights and offers enchanting views of grazing bison and the Leipzig skyline. Discover our other recommendations for lakes around Leipzig here.
