The gasometer in Oberhausen is the city’s landmark. The former cokery gas container is probably Europe’s most unusual exhibition hall. The interior of the gasometer makes for a unique experience. The 7- to 8-fold echo leaves visitors astounded. A panoramic glass lift inside the gasometer goes up to beneath the cupola. From the roof you get a wonderful view of the western Ruhr area. This steel giant was voted one of Germany’s best-loved places by the viewers of the ZDF TV programme “Unsere Besten – die Lieblingsorte der Deutschen” (“Our top picks – the Germans’ favourite places”).
