Schönteil Park in central Aschaffenburg is one of the city’s most beautiful and popular spots. As well as plenty of beautiful nature to take in, the English-style park also offers varied Sunday concerts on its music podium and in its popular beer garden. Children can burn off some energy in the fantastic playground or experience nature with all their senses in the sensory garden. One of the park’s main attraction is the magnolia grove, which blooms in spring. 

Schloss Johannisburg is located on the right bank of the River Main in the old town of Aschaffenburg, and has been shaping the cityscape with its bright red sandstone since the 16th century. The castle is one of the most important buildings of the German Renaissance and served as a second residence for the electors and archbishops of Mainz. Each Sunday at 2 p.m., there is a guided tour on the topic of "residence and treasure chest of the electors". The castle is also a popular venue for numerous events throughout the year.

The Stiftskirche in Aschaffenburg is the only church in the world that’s dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Alexander. It was built in the 10th century; the core structure was constructed in Romanesque style and all other parts in early Gothic style. In 1958, it was made a Basilica by Pope Pius XII. It is home to many important art treasures and furnishings, some of which are exhibited at the Stiftsmuseum.

The Stiftsmuseum is located adjacent to the Stiftskirche St. Peter und Alexander. Its collection includes important archaeological discoveries from the Neolithic and Roman Ages, right through to the Middle Ages. These include treasures from Stiftskirche St. Peter und Alexander and the famous altarpiece of St. Magdalene from the workshop of Lucas Cranach the Elder.

The Pompejanum was commissioned by King Ludwig I in the 19th century. The building is a replica of a Roman villa from Pompeii and pays homage to ancient architecture. The Mediterranean garden surrounding the building is a nod to the warmer climes of Southern Europe. In addition to the valuable Roman exhibits on display, each year there is a special exhibition on a different archaeological topic.

The Museum of Jewish History and Culture is located in a former rabbi house on Wolfsthalplatz. As the name suggests, the museum is dedicated to the history of Aschaffenburg’s former Jewish community. The permanent exhibition includes historical documents such as photographs, newspaper reports and ads dating from 1267 right through to the time of persecution under the Nazis.

Aschaffenburg’s historic old town is where you’ll find romantic half-timbered buildings, narrow streets and quaint pubs with unmistakable charm. In the pedestrian zone are numerous shops, cafes and restaurants where you can spend the whole day shopping and eating. Schöntal Park is the ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle.
