“Viena espera por você”, cantou o músico americano Billy Joel. Viena também espera por você: a charmosa cidade, situada às margens do Danúbio Azul, é uma das capitais mais antigas da Europa e sempre fascinou visitantes de todo o mundo. Tal deve-se inevitavelmente à paisagem urbana, caracterizada por um lado pelo esplendor e pela glória da era imperial e, por outro, pelas correntes vanguardistas dos tempos modernos.
Ópera, música, teatro, balé e dança são ofertas culturais que não faltam nesta cidade e são reconhecidas e apreciadas em todo o mundo pelo seu património cultural e artístico. Viena foi o local de trabalho de grandes compositores como Mozart, Hayden, Liszt e Strauss. A influência da música ainda é notável em Viena hoje: na capital austríaca, mais de 150 danças de gala são celebradas a cada ano, uma tradição que remonta à época dos Habsburgos.
Existem vários locais de interesse na parte antiga de Viena. O Museu Kunsthistorisches leva seus visitantes a uma viagem impressionante pelo mundo da arte com obras de Vermeer, Brueghel, Velásquez e Rafael, além de uma extensa coleção de artefatos egípcios. No Belvedere podem ser admiradas as obras de arte do principal protagonista da Secessão de Viena, Gustav Klimt. A Albertina é outra galeria que merece uma visita com seu belo acervo e grandes exposições temporárias. A partir daqui, é apenas um tiro de pedra para o Hofburg de Viena. Aqui você tem uma visão dos apartamentos privados do Imperador Franz Joseph e da Imperatriz Sissi. Não muito longe daqui fica o salão onde se apresenta o Coro de Meninos de Viena e também a Escola Espanhola de Equitação, cujas atuações não encantam apenas os cavalos. O Palácio de Schönbrunn e o Gloriette, que pertencem ao complexo do palácio, são considerados emblemáticos para a paisagem urbana de Viena. Já a Catedral de Santo Estêvão é o orgulho da arquitetura gótica local.
The Vienna Belvedere Palace is a palace complex built by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt between 1714 and 1723 for Prince Eugene of Savoy. The Upper Belvedere and the Lower Belvedere together with the connecting gardens form a baroque ensemble. The gardens invite you to take a walk.
As the capital of an old empire, the range of good restaurants in Vienna is wide and varied. Viennese Schnitzel, Kaiserschmarrn and Sachertorte are world-famous. You should have tried these Viennese specialties in any case. In the city center you will find many cafes that understand Viennese fine bakery art. Do you have an appetite for something else? From Arabic kebabs to Japanese sushi, Argentinean barbecues to American fast food venues, there is something for every taste and mood in the city. The largest selection can be found in the surroundings of Kärntner Straße.
Many of the sights of Vienna are located in or around the ring, such as the best museums, the Hofburg and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Within the ring, these tourist attractions are within walking distance.
To get there or to reach more distant destinations such as Schönbrunn Palace, use the excellent public transport network with metro, trams, buses and trains. Tickets for one trip (2 €), one day (6,70 €), 48 hours (11,70 €), 72 hours (14,50 €) and one week (15 €, valid from Monday to Sunday) are available in kiosks and tobacconists or at vending machines at train stations.
An interesting alternative is the Vienna City Card, which gives you a discount for the price of 29 € 72 hours of unrestricted transport and 210 attractions, cafés and restaurants. The card is available in hotels and tourist information centers.
The Fiaker, two-horse cabs, are an integral part of the cityscape and a very special way to explore Vienna. A 30-minute carriage ride costs about 50 €.
