The river Drau is exactly the right place to enjoy the nature of Austria away from tourism. Here a relaxed walk along the riverbank or a small bicycle tour is recommended. The cycle paths are very well developed. For example, plan a tour to the Ossiacher See, which can be reached from the city of Villach in under an hour. No matter if you are an outdoor enthusiast and want to explore the whole region by bike, if you are in the region on business and want to use your day off for cycling or if you want to take a family tour - around the city of Villach there are bike tours for every taste!

One of the most beautiful places in Austria is the Faaker See, which stands out from the surrounding mountain landscape with its turquoise water. Here you should plan a visit to the small Faaker See island. This island was once owned by Ludwig Wittgenstein, one of the most important philosophers of the 20th century. A trip to the Ossiacher See is also worthwhile, because here you will find bathing facilities as well as sailing boats, surfers and shipping traffic. If you have a little more time, you can plan an excursion to Lake Silver, which is only 6 kilometers away. Or you can pack your picnic bag and drive to the Aichwaldsee, which is 15 kilometers away.

The Dobratsch Nature Park is the oldest nature park in Carinthia. From the city of Villach you travel along the Villach Alpine Road, whose panorama is so breathtaking that the journey there alone is worthwhile. The park, which is considered the local recreation area of the city of Villach, awaits you with unspoiled landscape, a diverse flora and fauna and beautiful places to rest and relax. If you like hiking, we recommend the archaeological trail Warmbad, a summit hike or the 1.5 hour long Rosstratten round in the Dobratsch Nature Park. The Dobratsch Nature Park is also an absolute highlight in winter. Here you can go skiing, cross-country skiing, tobogganing or take part in one of the spectacular ski tours. You should also not miss a visit to the Villach Alpine Arena. 
 

Landskron Castle, built in the 11th century, offers not only a great view over the region, but also a captivating story and action for the whole family. Next to the castle restaurant is the Adlerarena, where daily bird of prey shows take place in summer - just as spectacular for children to watch as for adults! 
For all monkey lovers, a visit to the Affenberg below pays off. About 150 macaque monkeys live here in the wild. The Affenberg Villach is open daily and can be visited during a 45-minute guided tour.
